Seven suspended over incident

Carter County school officials have suspended seven members of the Unaka High School girls basketball team in connection with a weekend drinking incident that saw one player treated and later released from a Chattanooga hospital.
The Unaka team was in Chattanooga over the weekend to play a game against Tennessee Temple.
According to Dallas Williams, the county's director of schools, the length of the school suspensions are varied based on each player's "degree of participation" in the episode. He said several of the students have also been suspended from the team indefinitely, while others were suspended for a number of games.
Williams said the episode, one of the most serious ever involving students and alcohol, has promoted authorities to closely scrutinize all out-of-town school trips.
