School Board sets budget workshop

   The Elizabethton Board of Education will hold a budget workshop at 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 17, in the central office, 804 S. Watauga Ave., to prepare a budget for the 2002-2003 fiscal year which begins July 1.
   The board will also hold its regular monthly meeting later that evening.
   At that meeting, the board is expected to consider:
   * Approval of Merrill Lynch Services Annuity Programs offered to employees through payroll deduction;
   * Approval of new hire Jim Hyder, bus driver;
   * Resignations of Jason Wright, West Side, and Lynn Valdez, Harold McCormick, both child care workers;
   * Leaves of absence for Margaret Ingram, Elizabethton High School (EHS) teacher assistant; Barbara Simerly, central office custodian; Jane Radford, East Side cook; and Lisa Watson, EHS teacher;
   * Substitute teachers Anna Hurley, Whitney Shell Odom, Laura Shoun and Beth Stevens;
   * Purchase of five iMac computers and two individual iMacs for Harold McCormick from Apple Computer, Inc., in the State of Tennessee Contract Award #338;
   * Purchase of one bundle of AlphaSmarts for instructional use at Harold McCormick;
   * Bid for the purchase of one Telecor Intercom System for East Side Elementary School; and,
   * Bid for purchase of one 28-passenger school bus, 2002 Thomas, for Early Childhood Learning Center.
   The board will also receive evaluation forms for Dr. Judy Blevins, director of schools.
