John Holsclaw, manager of The Jeweler's Bench, says carat, cut, clarity, and color are the four C's of purchasing a diamond.
"They are the drivers that determine the fifth C, cost," Holsclaw said.
Holsclaw offers a free 15-30 minute training session on diamonds. "That will give them enough of a general understanding that when they go into any jewelry store they will able to get more for their money," he said.
The sessions are one-on-one. "That way, they're not intimidated, and they will feel like they get the special attention that they need," Holsclaw said. "A lot of people simply don't know what they're looking for in a diamond."
When it comes to diamonds, Holsclaw says he can "sell one as large as you want." The largest diamond he has sold was 2 1/2 carats. "Choose your own diamond, and we can put it in the perfect mounting for you," he said.
Christmas is "by far" the biggest holiday for jewelry stores, Holsclaw said. Valentine's Day and Mother's Day are the other two big holidays. "That's what keeps our doors open," Holsclaw remarked.
The shop offers a full line of jewelry for all ages.
"We offer custom jewelry and expert repair, which is all done in-house," Holsclaw said. "We repair about anything that has been broken or damaged."
The Jeweler's Bench offers a safe and security system which are monitored 24 hours per day. "Your jewelry is safer here than it is at home," Holsclaw remarked. "We have insurance to cover all repairs for theft or loss that is done in-house."
Ring sizing comprises the largest number of jewelry repair at The Jeweler's Bench. Holsclaw also repairs broken necklaces, bracelets and chains.
The shop, according to Holsclaw, supports local non-profit organizations. "We try to support all the groups," he said. "We're very big into the area schools.
"My goal is for you to be treated fairly and to provide you with the highest quality product, which will create customer delight and satisfaction. Our goal is to have a customer for a lifetime."
